Danh động từ (Gerund) và Động từ nguyên thể (Infinitive)

Có nhiều bạn gặp khó khăn về cách sử dụng Danh động từ và động từ nguyên thể. Đôi khi có thể vừa dùng danh động từ và động từ nguyên thể cho cùng một dạng câu với cùng nghĩa hoặc khác nghĩa nhau. Bài viết này sẽ làm rõ sự khác biệt giữa Danh động từ và Động từ nguyên thể nhé!

 

Trong tiếng Anh, nếu bạn muốn thêm một động từ theo sau một hành động khác, bạn phải sửa dụng Động danh từ – Gerund (Động từ + đuôi ING) hoặc Động từ nguyên thể – Infinitive (To + verb). Đây là cách diễn tả các hành động này tác động hoặc là mục đích của hành động kia…. Hãy xem các ví dụ sau:

• We resumed talking. (gerund – verb + ing)
• I want to see a movie. (infinitive – to + base verb)

I. Cách sử dụng danh động từ và động từ nguyên thể.

TO-INFINITIVE GERUND ●  Diễn đạt mục đích Ex: He went to university to become a teacher (in order to become) ●  Sau một số động từ sau(agree, appear, decide, hope, promise, refuse, plan, expect etc). Ex: I promised to vote for him ●  Sau một số tính từ(happy, glad, sorry etc) Ex: I am really sorry to hear that ●  Sau công thức “I would like /love/prefer” My ex: I would like to see your boss ●  Sau một số danh từ (surprise, fun …) Ex: What a fun to be here ●  Sau cấu trúc “too/enough” Ex: He’s clever enough to finish the task She is too short to reach the ceiling ●  Trong một số cấu trúc như: to tell you the truth, to the honest, to begin with, etc Ex To begin with, I’d like to talk about the sales this year ●  Sử dụng như danh từ Ex: Walking is good exercise ●  Sau một số động từ admit,  appreciate, avoid, consider, continue, delay, deny, discuss, enjoy, forgive, go (physical activities), imagine, involve, keep (= continue), mention, mind, miss, quit,   resist, save, stand, suggest, tolerate, etc Ex: Let’s go jogging ●  Sau dislike, enjoy, hate, like, prefer để diễn đạt sở thích chung Ex She likes drawing (in general) ●  Sau một số cấu trúc: I’m busy, It’s (no) good, it’s not worth, there is no point in, can’t help, can’t stand, have a hard/difficult time, have difficulty (in) … Ex: It’s no use persuading him ●  Sau cấu trúc: spend/waste (time, money …) Ex: He waste his time doing meaningless things ●  Sau giới từ Ex: He looks forward to hearing from her

II. Các động từ theo sau là cả Gerund và Infinitve – Nghĩa thay đổi hoàn toàn

Forget	I forgot to meet him.(I didn’t meet him because I forgot to do it.)
	I forgot meeting him.(I don’t have the memory of meeting him before.)
Go on	He went on to learn English and French.(He ended one period of time before this.)
	He went on learning English and French.(He continued learning the languages.)
Quit	She quit to work here.(She quit another job in order to work here.)
	She quit working here.(She quit her job here. She doesn’t work here anymore.)
Regret	I regret promising to help you.(I’m sorry that I made the promise.)
	I regret to tell you that we can't hire you.(I’m telling you now, and I’m sorry.)
Remember	She remembered to visit her grandmother.(She didn’t forget to visit.)
	She remembered visiting her grandmother.(She had memories of this time.)
Stop	I stopped to call you.(I interrupted another action in order to call you.)
	I stopped calling you.(I stopped this activity. Maybe we had a fight.)
Try	I tried to open the window.(I attempted this action but didn’t succeed.)
	I tried opening the window.(This was one option I sampled. Maybe the room was hot.)

III. Các động từ theo sau là cả Gerund và Infinitve – nghĩa ít thay đổi

Ví dụ:

It started to rain. / It started raining.

• begin
• can’t bear
• can’t stand
• continue
• hate
• like
• love
• prefer
• propose
• start

Phân biệt sự khác nhau giữa Have gone và Have been

Bài học ngữ pháp tiếng Anh ngày hôm nay: Phân biệt Have gone và Have been. Cả hai dạng hiện tại hoàn thành này đều thường được sử dụng để nói đến sự dịch chuyển của chủ thể nhưng không phải ai cũng nhận ra được sự khác biệt rất nhỏ hoặc nhầm lẫn giữa cách dùng của hai phân từ hai “gone” và “been”.

…has/have gone to… nghĩa là chủ thể hành động đã di chuyển đến một địa điểm và vẫn chưa quay trở lại vị trí cũ.

Ví dụ:

He has gone to the bank. He should be back soon. (Ông ấy đã đi đến ngân hàng (Ông ấy vẫn chưa quay về). Ông ấy sớm quay trở lại thôi.)

… has/have been to… nghĩa là chủ thể hành động đã di chuyển đến một địa điểm nào đó vài lần. Nói cách khác, “has been to” nói về một kinh nghiệm.

Ví dụ:

He has been to London many times. (Ông ấy từng đến London vài lần)

I have been to Disneyland twice. (Tôi từng đến Disneyland hai lần rồi)
